Events Pay Tribute To Military Service Members

1

NEW HOMETOWN HERO BANNERS COMING SOON

In June, the City of Harrison will install 30 new lamp post banners to honor local men and women serving in the United States military. The banners will be displayed for one year.

Residents of Harrison and surrounding townships can apply for a “Hometown Hero” banner to honor a family member who is a veteran or serving active duty. The cost is $40 and the application must be mailed by June 3, 2022. A limited number of banners are available as first priority will be given to families who applied last year but did not receive a spot.

The banners on display now will be retired and provided to family members during a Fourth of July ceremony. More details on this event, the annual parade and fireworks are forthcoming.

Harrison resident Kathy Williams organized the program. Her son, Alex Williams has served in the U.S. Air Force since 2019. A $300 contribution from American Legion Yeager-Benson Post 199 will help with the banner production expense.

HARRISON LIBRARY EVENT WILL HONOR VIETNAM VETERANS

The Cincinnati Public Library will have a Vietnam War commemoration ceremony May 25 at 7 p.m. at the Harrison Branch Library (10398 New Haven Road).

Attendees will observe the recognition of Vietnam War veterans along with the family members of veterans killed in Vietnam. The event is presented by the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of Military Officers Association of America. Details are available on the library’s website.
