Ovens Places Seventh at Rocket Classic

Ohio's women's golf team finished up their third and final round today (Oct. 11) at The Rocket Classic, placing for tied for 6th overall in the competition. The Rocket Classic began on Monday morning (Oct. 10), consisting of three rounds and 54 holes over the course of two days. The Bobcats concluded the Rocket Classic with a final score of 963, finishing ahead of four other teams.

The Bobcats found themselves staying in the middle of the pack with the eleven other teams participating. The team's accumulated score from rounds one and two were 324 and 308 respectively, setting the Bobcats up for a chance to climb up in the standings. The Bobcats posted a score of 321 in their third and final round in the Rocket Classic. All around, the Bobcats had a solid three rounds. Senior Avery Ovens shot a 230, freshman Mackenzie McRee posted a 238 (+22), and junior Mariana Vega-Rivera finished with a score of 246 (+30).

The final rankings for the Rocket Classic had Ovens tied for seventh with two other golfers with a score of 230 (+14). McRee finished tied for 20th, followed by Vega-Rivera tied for 33rd, with sophomore Thanya Arasu tied for 37th overall, and sophomore Sloane Post tied for 54th.

The first-place golfer for the 2022 Rocket Classic was Rikke Nordvik from Rutgers, posting an impressive score of 222 (+6), helping carry her team to the first overall spot with a total score of 910.

With the conclusion of their fall slate, the Ohio women's golf team will head to Lakewood Ranch, FL on Monday, February 6 for the Falcon Florida Classic.
