How It Happened

Franciscan made the trip to New Wilmington, Pa. to take on Westminster on Saturday afternoon. A slow start would be too much to overcome, as the Titans would prevail.

Jazzlyn Melnyk connected on a three pointer, and Lauren Arena made a layup to give the Barons a 5-3 lead after the first three minutes of play. The rest of the half was not as productive for Franciscan, as the Titans would hold them in check. Westminster would take a 29-7 lead into the half.

Franciscan would not quit though as they got the offense going in the second half. Sophie LaRose and Kylie Panizza would get the Barons on the board in the second half. MacGillivray, Gonzales, and Arena each added buckets to give them a 12 point third quarter to keep the game within reach. The Titans would keep up the offensive attack in the fourth to close this one out. Kimberly McDaniels and Fiona Donlon would add late points to give Franciscan eight different scorers.

Inside the Numbers

- MacGillivray led the Barons with eight points.

- LaRose pulled in a team-high eight boards.

- Melnyk added four steals to now have 30 on the season, fourth most in the conference

Up Next

Franciscan returns home to take on Saint Vincent on Wednesday at 6 pm. The Barons are looking for the fist win against Saint Vincent in series history. These two teams squared off earlier this season with the Bearcats winning 75-28. It was Franciscan's worst shooting day of the season while Saint Vincent shot 40% from the floor. Hopefully the Barons can flip the switch Wednesday for a different result.
