Harrison City Council will be taking a close look at tax collection and recreational amenities in 2023. 

At the Jan. 4, 2023 meeting, the council approved committee, boards and commissions assignments. Mayor Bill Neyer introduced new committees and liaisons formed to connect council to the community.

“I’m looking forward to a very productive 2023,” Neyer said.

Councilman Ryan Grubbs, who has served on Council since 2014, was elected vice mayor. Grubbs will also lead a new committee to evaluate feasibility of having an in-house tax department rather than using the Regional Income Tax Authority (RITA) to collect taxes. 

A new Recreation Improvement Committee will be chaired by Councilman Tony Egner. The committee will collect input and evaluate the need for renovating recreational facilities outside the Harrison Community Center. 

Councilwoman Lexis Dole will be a new liaison to The District, the association of businesses located in Harrison’s historic downtown. Neyer said it will help Council be more interactive with that group. 

During the meeting, Grubbs also asked residents to look for a utility bill insert. The City needs to test water from a sample of single-family homes constructed between 1983 and 1987. More information is described on the insert, available here.
