A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Belmont County in Ohio regarding vendor payments on September 26, 2024. The request was made by EC Ohio News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
We at EC Ohio News are seeking access to public records under the Ohio Open Records Law, §149.43 et seq., specifically requesting a list of all payments made to vendors from January 1, 2024, till September 26, 2024. The requested information includes the vendor name, transaction date, transaction description, and amount.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe that access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as media professionals. We eagerly await a response from Belmont County officials and will continue our efforts to promote transparency within local government operations.
