The Ohio House of Representatives has passed House Bill 4, which proposes to designate September 19th as Stillbirth Prevention Day in the state. The bill was announced by State Representative Adam Holmes from Nashport. It seeks to raise awareness about stillbirth and enhance healthcare resources for expecting mothers across Ohio.

Holmes expressed hope that this initiative would "save lives of mothers and babies, accelerate improved birthing practices, and unify all of us—men and women, urban and rural—into continued cooperative support in the pursuit of healthier lives for all Ohioans."

According to the Centers for Disease Control, approximately 1 in every 175 births in the United States results in stillbirth each year, totaling around 21,000 annually. In Ohio alone, there were 760 stillbirths recorded in 2021, exceeding the national average.

The bill will now move forward for consideration by the Ohio Senate.
