State Rep. Don Jones | The Ohio House of Representatives
Representative Don Jones has announced his resignation from the Ohio House of Representatives following an appointment by President Donald Trump. Jones will serve as State Executive Director for the Ohio Farm Service Agency within the U.S. Department of Agriculture, starting June 2, 2025. Consequently, he will step down from his position as state representative for the 95th Ohio House District effective June 1, 2025.
Speaker of the Ohio House Matt Huffman commented on Jones' departure: “Don Jones has honorably served the constituents of the 95th House District and has continued to be a dependable leader for our Caucus on issues related to agriculture, education and natural resources.” He expressed gratitude for Jones' service since 2019 and anticipated future collaboration in his new role.
Jones reflected on his tenure representing eastern and southeastern Ohio: “It has been a true honor and privilege to serve the residents...The 95th district may have changed its configuration since my beginning in 2019, but one thing has remained the same; it is still a hardworking, blue-collar district.”
In light of this development, Speaker Huffman announced plans to form a screening panel to identify candidates for Jones' vacant seat. The panel will be chaired by Speaker Pro Tempore Gayle Manning and include four other Republican members.
Residents interested in applying must submit their resumes and letters of recommendation by June 6 at 5 p.m. Applications can be sent via mail or email to Speaker Huffman and Chief of Staff Mike Dittoe. The screening process is set to begin during the week of June 9, with a new member expected before summer recess at June's end.
