The Ohio House of Representatives has passed Substitute House Bill 2, the state's two-year construction budget for capital projects. State Rep. Don Jones (R-Freeport) announced that the Capital Budget will make significant investments in local community projects.

Jones highlighted several capital investments aimed at benefiting Belmont County and its surrounding areas:

- $1 million to the Belmont Volunteer Fire Department

- $500,000 to revitalize the Sargus Center by replacing aging infrastructure

- $200,000 to improve Commerce Park with pickleball courts and an amphitheater

- $75,000 to upgrade the Barnesville Train Depot

- $24,900 to rejuvenate VFW Post 5565

“These investments provide continued support to keep up with infrastructure projects and support our first responders,” said Jones.

In addition to these local allocations, the legislation includes statewide capital investments such as:

- $600 million for the School Building Program Assistance Fund

- $400 million for the Public Works Commission Local Public Infrastructure and State Capital Improvement Program

- $397.6 million for higher education projects across Ohio

Substitute House Bill 2 now awaits the Governor's signature.
